Introduction

"Be on cloud nine" — to be extremely happy and chuffed

Cloud 9 is a comprehensive bedroom furniture collection designed to evoke two fundamental feelings: cosiness and relaxation. The concept draws its name from the English idiom, channeling the sensation of pure contentment into tangible design elements that transform the bedroom into a sanctuary of comfort.

The collection represents a thoughtful fusion of three distinct design philosophies: the simplicity and precision of Japanese design culture, the rich textile and leather craftsmanship of Italian heritage, and the functional pragmatism of Northern European household sensibilities. This cross-cultural approach ensures that each piece not only serves its aesthetic purpose but remains practical, easy to maintain, and genuinely functional for contemporary living.

The bedroom elements presented within this collection support an effective method for fully experiencing the bedroom throughout different moments of the day—from the peaceful awakening of morning, to relaxed unwinding during lazy afternoons, to the final ritual of preparing for restful sleep.

Main Objectives

Materialism

The first guiding principle embraces essential materials and clean shapes. No swirls or frills—just honest forms with one primary material per component. This restraint allows the eye and mind to relax, creating a welcoming atmosphere where visual complexity gives way to serene simplicity. Each piece speaks through its material integrity rather than decorative excess.

Avantgarde

The new avantgarde expressed in Cloud 9 is quiet and luxurious. The devil is not in the detail—rather, the details themselves are rich and important for an aesthetically-pleasing room. Form follows function, but function is elevated through considered material choices and refined proportions that speak to contemporary sensibilities.

Parametric Design Approach

Finding the right balance between innovation and feasibility is central to the Cloud 9 methodology. A parametric approach has been chosen for key design elements, allowing easier control over shape and dimensions while maintaining manufacturing viability. This method enables innovation at a sustainable pace—first slowly, then more confidently as processes mature.

Distinctive Elements

The Cloud 9 collection comprises five interconnected pieces, each serving a specific moment in the bedroom experience:

Strato — King Bed

The centrepiece of the collection, Strato features three interchangeable headboard options. Cirrostratus offers two simple lining pillows in textile and foam for understated comfort. Cumulus presents a wood panel padded with upholstered leather and a laser-cut parametric geometric motif in polished or anodised metal. Cumulonimbus provides a sectioned headboard designed to integrate with the wall, featuring vertical padding with upholstered textile and optional jacquard graphics. The bed base follows the concept of a Japanese tatami, with a lightweight textile-upholstered structure, bare wood legs, and integrated bedside tables with optional reading lights.

Meso & Eso — Armchair with Ottoman

Designed for moments of unwinding without retreating to bed, Meso welcomes the user with flexible armrests adjustable from 45° to 90°. Eso, the accompanying ottoman, follows the same design language and proportions. The pieces feature a moulded plastic shell with solid wood legs and plastic feet, covered in leather with optional textile customisation. The design pays homage to the French bergère tradition while embracing contemporary simplicity.

Tropo — Hanger and Storage

For the ritual of changing and the inevitable habit of draping clothes on furniture, Tropo offers a contemporary solution with double utility. A telescopic, height-adjustable cylindrical structure combines wood upholstered with brown leather for storage, a polished metal ring for hanging clothes, and a top base. The design embodies the Northern European principle of form following function, elevated by Italian leather craftsmanship.

Exo — Portable Heater/Cooler

Adding contemporary technology to the bedroom environment, Exo is a portable IoT device for personal temperature control. Its form recalls the soft, irregular shapes of a graphical cloud, with each unit potentially differing due to its modularity. The engineering heart resides in a coloured sphere—blue or yellow—where larger spheres indicate greater thermal capacity. A soft-touch cover makes Exo an interactive, tactile presence in the room, with options for textile or leather coordination.

Considerations

Materials and Colour Palette

The colour palette centres on neutral tones—shades of beige as the light hue, transitioning through warm tones toward dark reddish-brown for contrast. These colours reflect the primary materials: leather, wood, and metal. The restrained palette allows for rich textiles and printed leathers to be introduced without overwhelming the space, maintaining the principle of visual relaxation.

Manufacturing Feasibility

Each piece has been designed with production in mind. The Cumulus headboard, representing the most complex element, utilises parametric circles translated into metal laser-cutting patterns applied to leather. The cylindrical forms of Tropo simplify manufacturing while maintaining visual sophistication. Component counts have been optimised: the armchair at 11 pieces, the ottoman at 10, the bed at 15 (plus 6 optional), and the hanger at 9.

Market Positioning

Cloud 9 targets households seeking furniture that bridges cultural traditions—Japanese minimalism, Italian luxury, and Nordic functionality. The collection addresses the 2024 consumer desire for pieces that are easy to clean, genuinely functional, and aesthetically enduring. The integration of smart technology through Exo positions the collection for forward-thinking homeowners embracing connected living.

Conclusions

Cloud 9 represents more than a furniture collection—it is a considered approach to bedroom living that honours the sanctuary of rest. By drawing from Japanese simplicity, Italian craftsmanship, and Northern European pragmatism, the collection achieves a balanced aesthetic that feels both timeless and contemporary.

The five pieces—Strato, Meso, Eso, Tropo, and Exo—work together to support the full cycle of bedroom experience: waking, relaxing, changing, and sleeping. Each element maintains its individual identity while contributing to a cohesive visual and functional narrative. The parametric design methodology ensures that innovation serves rather than complicates production, enabling quality manufacturing at sustainable scales.

In embracing the idiom "be on cloud nine," the collection delivers on its promise: furniture that creates genuine happiness through thoughtful design, material honesty, and the kind of quiet luxury that invites daily contentment rather than demanding attention.

Cosiness. Relaxation. Cloud 9.
